There is no such thing as being relaxed when visiting your dentist. There is, only a small percentage of people who actually likes visiting their dentist. The smell, the sounds, the screams, it all builds up fear and repulsion.
However, getting our teeth checked out is something we all have to do regularly.
If you happen to be one of the many people who dread going to the dentist, we have some good news for you. We just came across one dentistal office that uses an unusual approach to calming your nerves.
Comfort Dog Keeps Scared Kids Company at the Dentist
JoJo isn’t the average dental nurse. She’s a 6-year-old golden retriever who is a trained comfort dog working alongside Dr. Paul Egger and Dr. Thomas Resnick as a doggy dental nurse at the Pediatric Dentistry of Northbrook in Illinois.
This wonderful idea of calming your patients with the presence of a comfort dog came from Lynne Ryan, JoJo’s trainer or handler.
Most of the patients are terrified and asks for a sedative to get through the dental procedure. Instead of using nitrous oxide or any other sedative to help keep them relaxed, Lynne Ryan came up with the idea to introduce them to JoJo. And as expected, when JoJo comes in with them and sits in the lap, they feel comfortable. They can sit and pet her as they’re getting their teeth checked out.
Not only the idea was successful, it actually brings a whole new meaning to creativity in problem solving. JoJo does a wonderful job in giving comfort to the patients.
