Greece reported its first death related to a corona virus infection or COVID-19 on Thursday local time. The patient is a 66 year old man.
Quoted from the Straits Times on Friday (3/13/2020), this man has just returned from a religious trip to Israel and Egypt at the end of February. At least, there were 53 people who accompanied him.
Citing the Greek Reporter, the man who is a retired teacher in Amaliada, Peloponnese has been treated at Rio Hospital, located near the city of Patras since March 2.
The Greek Ministry of Health confirmed that most of his traveling companions, including his wife, were also infected with COVID-19. Some were hospitalized in Patras, while some were doing independent isolation at home.

The Greek Ministry of Health revealed that smiling patients also have underlying health problems.
Greece is also said to have enacted several steps to prevent the spread of the corona virus, among others by closing all schools, kindergartens, and universities.
Citing the New York Post, on Thursday, the government also announced the closure of a two-night club, gym, cinema and theater for preventing corona virus.
“We have done what is necessary to protect the health of the public, public and private sectors invited to work together,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a television broadcast Wednesday night local time.
