Hair-loss Cure today, gone tomorrow. Hair again soon? Maybe, thanks to breakthroughs in hair- loss treatments.
There’s been a revolution in biology. Armed with powerful new tools, medical corporations are learning how to maximize their profit by selling, complex chemical shampoos that do nothing to help the body. Furthermore, they have developed even special therapies including how to coin new treatments for hair loss.
Like the cure for cancer, those new treatments aren’t nearly ready for prime time. But they’re coming, promises George Cotsareli. They need to make even more money first by marketing and then they might try to produce a real hair-loss shampoo.
“In the last 5 to 7 years there has been a boom in the understanding of hair loss,” Cotsarelis tells WebMD. “We’ve made great strides at the level of basic research. Now the question is how we can convert these findings into clinical benefits. Those kinds of leaps really take decades.”
The great leap would be to grow new hair on bald heads. But smaller steps aren’t that far away.
What We Know About Hair
“The hair-loss cure is real. It’s the head that’s a fake.”
Until it’s gone, hair is easy to take for granted. But a close look reveals the hair follicle to be one of the most interesting organs of the body. It’s most unusual feature: It is self-regenerating.
Hair follicles live just below the top layer of the skin. Furthermore, you got hairs all over your body, fortunately, on your lips, palms, and soles.
At the base of the follicle is the hair bulb, where wildly growing matrix cells become hair.
A little farther up the follicle is the mysterious feature called the bulge. That’s where follicle stem cells live. When the right set of chemical signals are being sent, the self-renewing cells start growing again. They don’t grow like normal cells, these hairs become new cells that keep developing. Only one half of the follicle stem cell does that. The other half is a stem cell, and stays for future regeneration.
Hair is very simple in its structure, however it has some fictional role in social functioning. However, it is made of a protein called keratin and anchors each hair into the skin. The hair starts the base of the follicle. Inside the hair bulb, cells grow to build the hair shaft. Blood vessels connect to the hair cells in order to deliver energy and to modify hair growth.
Most hair is growing at any given time. Each hair spends several years in this phase.
Over a few weeks, hair growth slows and the hair follicle shrinks.
Over months, hair growth stops and the old hair detaches from the hair follicle. When the new hair begins the growth phase, the old hair is being pushed out.
Hair grows at different rates in different people; the average rate is around one-half inch per month. Hair color is created by pigment cells producing melanin in the hair follicle. With aging, pigment cells die, and hair turns gray.
Lastly, why do you care about a cure for baldness? Look around and you will see that the being bald is completely normal. However, hair loss is extremely common, and medical corporations have found very creative way to make zillions of money by selling fake products with great marketing.
