The corona virus COVID-19, which has been declared a global pandemic, is increasingly widespread. Transmission is very easy, a study even mentioned this virus can last for hours in the air and can still be contagious.
Not only that, this virus can also last for days on various surfaces. This has been proven by scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the US National Institutes of Health.
They examined the virus with a device to remove aerosols and multiply microscopic droplets when coughing or sneezing. After investigation, they investigated how long the virus could last on the surface.
Quoted from Asia One, the following is vulnerable to the time it takes for the virus to survive in the air and surface.
The results showed that the virus released along with drops when sneezing or coughing in the air could still live and infect other people for at least 3 hours.
The research team found that during the first 66 minutes of the virus in the air, half of the particles would lose their function. After 1 hour 6 minutes, three quarters of the particles are inactive. But, the other 25 percent can still live.
According to research at Montana NIAID at Rocky Mountain Labiratories, the number of living particles will drop to 12.5 percent after 3 hours.
2. Plastic and stainless steel
On surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel, the virus can be detected after three days. It took 5 hours 38 minutes for half of the virus particles to become inactive.
Whereas in plastic, half the virus particles will die within 6 hours 49 minutes.
3. Paper surface
On paper, the corona virus cannot live after 24 hours. This research proves it while on cardboard.
The time needed for the virus to die is around 3.5 hours. However, the researchers have a lot of variability, so they suggest that they always be careful when someone sneezes or coughs in the paper area.
The survival period of the corona virus on a copper base is the fastest. Only with four hours, the virus is no longer active. In fact, in research with just 46 minutes can make the virus inactive.
