The number of people who are positively infected by the new Corona Virus or SARS-CoV-2 in Indonesia is increasing. The latest data revealed by the Government amounted to 96 cases, and one of these patients was the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya.
Facing the continued increase in the number of COVID-19 patients, the Government has taken several measures such as forming a Corona Virus task force, closing several tourist sites, and even dismissing schools.
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 is a new type of Corona Virus that is still being examined for its characteristics by scientists. It is known, like the flu, COVID-19 spreads very quickly from one individual to another. However, how long does this virus actually last in a person’s body?
A recent study published in The Lancet medical journal found that the corona virus was able to survive in the respiratory system of infected patients for 37 days and they were able to transmit the virus for weeks.
Last up to 5 weeks
Written in an article published in the Lancet medical journal, doctor Fei Zhou and his team from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in China detected viral RNA in respiratory fluid samples from people who recovered for an average of 20 days after they were infected.
This discovery is very helpful in determining how long the isolation and treatment period can be given to corona virus patients so that they can be more optimal in healing them. Until now, the isolation period for corona virus patients is generally 14 days to prevent the spread of the virus.
