“The Hold” is a new tremendous and successful method to quiet down and calm a crying baby that was originally presented by D-r Robert Hamilton, a pediatrician and father of six from Santa Monica, California.
D-r Hamilton demonstrates the technique in a video posted on YouTube which has quickly gone viral, with over 1.6 million views in the first three days.
In the video, D-r Hamilton shows how he calms the baby by folding the baby’s arms across its chest, and then holding the child with one hand around its chest while supporting the chin with 2 fingers and the other hand under its bottom, while gently rocking it back and forth. Miraculously, it takes only few seconds to calm down baby Ashton, who was crying because it has just gotten a shot.
It works as easily on the next baby, too. He holds the baby at a 45-degree angle and explains his method: “I shake his little booty like that, I gently rock him. Everything you do should be very gentle, you don’t want to do any jerky motions. You hold the child with the fleshy part of your hand, not your fingertips. And I am supporting his chin.”
He sums up the advice in just 4 steps:
Hamilton advises that it’s important to hold the child at an angle, and not move it straight up and down, in order to maintain control.
If the baby keeps crying, Hamilton warns the parents to consider checking to see if the baby is hungry or whether the baby has cramps or other early age issues. Usually, this simple technique will do the trick to the great relief of many exasperated moms and dads. Try it yourself, calm your crying baby in less than a minute!
