Unfortunately, we can’t always rely on the sense of thirst when the need of water is concerned, especially in children and the pregnant. The best indicator of dehydration in the body is the urine. Bright and clean urine is a sign of good hydration, while the dark and cloudy urine is a sign of lack of water in the body.

Symptoms of lack of water in the body

Besides urine, there are also other lack of water symptoms and they are:

  • Dry mouth
  • Sticky and thick saliva
  • Drowsiness and fatigue
  • Thirst
  • Reduced need to urinate
  • Little or no tears during crying
  • Headache
  • Constipation or hard stool
  • Diziness

Signs that warn of severe dehydration and require

medical attention are:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Extreme dizziness or drowsiness
  • Very dry mouth and skin
  • No need to urinate
  • Lack of sweating
  • Low blood pressure
  • Very fast heartbeat
  • Very fast breathing
  • Constipation that lasts several days
  • Fever
  • Fainting
