Good news for all of us who love herbs and spices in the way that nature intended them to be; one of the world’s largest herb and spice companies “McCormick” has announced its plan to make most of its products organic and non-GMO by the end of 2016.
Along with this momentous announcement, McCormick has also proposed the following changes:
- 80% of its product will be organic and non-GMO.
- 70% of its products will have new non-GMO labels
- There will be an introduction of a new non-GMO vanilla extract
- Many of their herbs and spices are currently non-GMO, but not labeled accordingly – this will be updated
Hard pressure from consumers started paying off. It caused some of the companies to clean up their supply chain and focus on providing healthier products. One of the best thing you can do If you want GMO free products is to support the companies that provide them by “voting with your dollar”.
There’s nothing wrong about herbs and spices that need to be tampered with.
Herbalism is one of the oldest and most tried-and-tested forms of medicine. It has already been through several thousand years of human trials. Trough observation of the impact some of the herbs had on man, a new method or form of medicine was developed. In the early ages, before printing, herbalists made a book with old remedies made with herbs and their effects on humans called “Dioscorides’ De Materia Medica”. The book has been in constant use for more than 1500 years, what makes it the world’s most lasting textbook ever.
Herbalism has been practiced for centuries and the effects they have our body are well documented, unlike the modern medicines which were tested for only a brief period of time. We honestly can’t predict what’s going to happen to someone after using a modern day medicine for 20 years’ time.
