The term herd immunity was discussed again because it was trending among netizens. So what does that mean herd immunity?
Herd immunity is a way to maintain group immunity. Previously the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, asked all citizens to work from home, avoid restaurants, bars and public transportation, and implement physical distancing.
The discourse had caused strong protests from a number of people, including from scientists. Some people think that herd immunity is not a good idea, it can even dramatically increase the number of victims.
Reported by Okezone from Bussinesinsider, Friday, herd immunity is when most of the population is immune to pathogens, so transmission is not widespread. For example, to limit the spread of measles, experts estimate that 93% to 95% of the population must be immune.
Allegedly group immunity can be done naturally. In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, the more people who are infected, the more people will recover and then become immune.
Professor of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene, Martin Hibberd said, if approximately 70 percent of the infected population had recovered, then the chances of a COVID-19 outbreak were much less.
Unfortunately, this way of fighting corona with herd immunity has become a public debate, since the term was first mentioned by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Because as is known, the way a person can fight the corona virus or COVID-19, namely by maintaining immunity and maintaining personal hygiene respectively.
By using a mask when coughing or flu, diligently washing hands with soap, sunbathing every morning, consumption of nutritious foods, to relax yourself so as not to stress easily.
